2:05 pm on 11 September 2007

Ten Cuban doctors are expected to arrive in Solomon Islands this month as a high-level government delegation left the country yesterday (mon) to formalise their engagement."

The Solomon Star reports that another 30 doctors will be brought in later.

The health minister, Clay Forau, is leading the delegation to Havana, Cuba.

The Government, under a special arrangement with Cuba, plans to engage 40 Cuban doctors to address the shortage of doctors in the country.

Under the arrangement, Cuba would meet the doctors' salaries while the Solomon Islands Government provides accommodation.
