Samoa's Ministry of Finance is expected to pay out around 450 thousand US dollars or over 1 million Samoan tala to almost 45 employees of the Samoa Broadcasting Corporation when the privatization of the public broadcaster is completed by the end of the year.
According to a senior policy officer in the ministry, nearly all the employees have opted to take redundancy and it worries the ministry because of the amount of money involved.
A reliable source within the Broadcasting Corporation says almost all employees in the production section such as camera people, journalists, engineers and video editors have already signed for the package.
The source says there is fear amongst staff that they might lose their jobs or have their salaries cut when a new owner takes over.
