The long awaited planned royal wedding between one of Samoa's late head of state's grandsons, Papalii Malietau, and the grand-daughter of the late King of Tonga, Princess Titilupe Fanetupouvava'u Tuita, has been called off because the engagement has been dissolved.

Papalii Malietau's mother, Aiono Sia Papalii Laupepa Malietoa, has confirmed the 2005 royal engagement held in Auckland New Zealand with the hope the two would be married some time last year has been dropped.

Aiono did not want to give details but she says it is dissolved because of family reasons.

The late head of state's grand-son is the eldest and only child of the late, Papalii Laupepa Malietoa, the eldest son of Malietoa Tanumafili II's children.

Princess Titilupe is the daughter of Princess Pilolevu Tuita, the daughter of the late King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV.
