Fiji's interim administration has granted tax-free status for ten years to the Apollo Group from India, which is setting up a new, state-of-the-art private hospital in Lautoka.

The acting chief executive of the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority, Jitiko Tikoilevu, says there would also be customs duty concessions on specialized equipment brought into the country for use at the hospital.

The Apollo Hospital will offer medical treatment and procedures not currently available for which Fiji citizens have had to travel to Australia and New Zealand in the past.

The hospital is also expected to lead to the development of medical tourism in which citizens of other countries visit Fiji for advanced medical treatment.
