American Samoa sets up further training for government employees

The government in American Samoa is working with off-island universities to establish two cohort programmes allowing government employees to continue to work while taking necessary classes to earn degrees.

Cohort programmes allow a U.S. university to partner the government to set up on- island degree courses where students takes classes locally at the American Samoa Community College instead of attending classes off-island.

Governor Togiola Tulafono says the first programme is a Master's degree in counseling, which is badly needed by various government departments, as there is a shortage in the current workforce.

He says this is a two year programme for those already holding a Bachelor degree.

The second cohort programme is for a Bachelor in accounting
