Earlier Commodore Bainimarama said he will definitely not contest the next general elections.

Commodore Bainimarama told local media he did not want the interim prime minister's job either but the military council decided he should take it up so it would not go to someone like Laisenia Qarase.

He says they made a serious mistake in appointing Laisenia Qarase to the interim prime minister's job in 2000 because after his appointment he made a 180-degree about turn and went the other way.

Commodore Bainimarama also says that the military should not be running the government which should be left to the politicians.

But, he says, the military is in government because the politicians are not ready to take the country forward.

Commodore Bainimarama says the military's exit strategy is the People's Charter for Change and Progress which will pave the way for good governance and allow the military to withdraw.
