Samoa considers transit fee change after inter-Samoa discussions

3:56 pm on 24 September 2007

The Samoa government is to consider a change in transit fees for passengers from neighboring American Samoa moving through Faleolo international airport.

The change will be considered after the territory's immigration authorities waived a transit fee of 50 US dollars previously charged to Samoan travellers on direct flights from Hawaii.

The fee was paid for a stop off in Pago Pago of less than 24 hours.

It was the reason why the Samoa government early this year imposed a fee on all American Samoa transit passengers.

The new change was announced after the annual talks between leaders of the two Samoas held in Apia over the week-end.
