One of the worst affected regions of South Guadalcanal during the ethnic tension in Solomon Islands has reconciled its people after almost seven years.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation says a major reconciliation ceremony was held last Saturday between supporters of the former Guadalcanal Liberation Front and Police Joint operation in the Poleo region of Guadalcanal.

The ceremony saw the coming together and reconciling of 30 communities who were supporters either of the former GLF or the Police Joint operation, and who have agreed to forget and bury scars of atrocities committed against each other over the past years.

The chairman of the Poleo reconciliation taskforce, Pastor Jepter Wilfred said the clashes between the two warring parties had resulted in several deaths and thousands more including women, children and the elderly having to walk days across Guadalcanal fleeing for their safety.
