The Samoa government is reportedly seeking financial assistance from the Chinese government for the purchase of a 30 seater aircraft to service the Apia-Pago Pago route.
The government newspaper says the Chinese Embassy in Apia has been assisting the Ministry of Finance in drafting a proposal to be sent to Beijing for a soft loan to buy the new aircraft.
Polynesian Airlines has been left with one Twin Otter plane serving the two Samoas after the ageing Dash-8 aircraft was returned early this month to an Australian company from which it was leased.
It is expected that a new aircraft will be put into operation some time next year.
