The Fiji women's basketball coach Michael Whippy says his side gained something from their match against world champions Australia despite a 136-32 thrashing.

Whippy says theyknew they were going to struggle, but gained confidence in the final quarter which will help them against New Zealand tonight.

Australia had already scored seven points before Fiji found the basket with a Mareta Mani free throw.

Fiji added only one basket in the second period but found their rhythm in the final quarter losing by just 7 points.

After the game, Australian coach Jan Stirling visited the Fijian locker room, and told them to be proud of their performance.

Australia take the day off today while Fiji and the NZ Tall Ferns face off for the Oceania berth at next year's Beijing Olympics.
