The newly elected president of the Fiji Law Society, Isireli Fa, says he wants to hold dialogue with the interim administration on issues that divide them.
Isireli Fa, who defeated the former Law Society vice president Tupou Draunidalo in a secret postal ballot, says he wants dialogue with the interim government on the challenges facing the country since the military takeover.
Mr Fa says Fiji's lawyers want to voice their views on the direction the country is taking and to contribute to bringing back constitutional normality to the country.
The interim attorney general, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, says he would welcome dialogue with the Law Society.
As the new Law Society president, Isireli Fa becomes a member of the Judicial Services Commission which appoints judges and magistrates.
His predecessor, Devanesh Sharma, boycotted meetings of the commission after the one which appointed the current acting chief justice but it is not known what Mr Fa's stance will be.
