American Samoa government warns against illegal bank accounts

11:01 am on 5 October 2007

American Samoa Government departments with their own bank accounts have been given until November 4 to close them and turn in the funds to the General Fund.

Governor Togiola Tulafono has given departments with unauthorised bank accounts a 30 day amnesty to close them.

He said all accounts must be a Treasury account or they will be closed.

The governor's order comes after a memo from Treasury which went out earlier this week to all departments reminding them that only Treasury can keep bank accounts unless the accounts are authorized by law.
