A Fiji NGO, the Citizens Constitutional Forum, has called for the police commissioner, Commodore Esala Teleni, to be investigated and disciplined.
The call follows revelations in court that Commodore Teleni wrote a letter to the justice ministry alleging that two High Court judges, Justice Gerard Winter and Justice Filimoni Jitoko, were biased against the military and should not president over any cases involving the military or its personnel.
The CCF's executive director, the Rev Akuila Yabaki, says they are concerned that Commodore Teleni is misusing his position and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The Rev Yabaki says it was ridiculous of the former navy commander Francis Kean's lawyer, Abhay Singh, to say in court that because Justice Winter did not support the December 5th takeover, he was biased against Kean.
The Rev Yabaki says a coup is an illegal act and no judge can support a military coup of any kind. He says coups are by their very nature extra legal activities which cannot be supported or approved of by judges, as they are the guardians of the law.
The Rev Yabaki says Commodore Teleni's attempts to pervert the course of justice should not be taken lightly and he should be disciplined by the appropriate authorities.
