American Samoan teachers complain about late pay

11:10 am on 19 October 2007

Some public school teachers in American Samoa have lodged complaints with the Senate saying they have not received pay checks dating back to June and Senate President Lolo M. Moliga, says he wants an explanation from Education director Dr. Claire Poumele.

In a letter to Dr Poumele, Lolo says this dilemma is the product of internal conflicts between the Department of Education and the Department of Human Resources.

Lolo says this is disconcerting because the affected teachers have been victimized, and that will affect the quality of education being received by the children of American Samoa.

He has requested a full explanation from the Education Department.
