The US Transportation Security Administration is prepared to check all passenger flights out of American Samoa.

This means that inter island flights to Samoa will be subjected to the same TSA checks.

The outgoing TSA field director for Pago Pago, William Haleck, says the new policy is not expected to prompt the hiring of more staff.

"TSA has given me the approval to go ahead and screen all the flights and planes that depart out of American Samoa. We are just waiting on the approval of the airport security plan that we had written up."
