A senior magistrate in Papua New Guinea, Ivo Cappo, has been killed by West Papuan refugees reportedly after his car ran into their camp.

The Post Courier newspaper reports that he was stoned to death at the camp at Ela Beach in Port Moresby after losing control of his vehicle.

The paper says Mr Cappo got out of the vehicle to investigate when the refugees rushed to him and killed him.

Reports say none of the refugees was injured in the car incident.

The National Capital District governor, Powes Parkop, asked the police to help the refugees move to a safer location inside the Boroko police station.

There are no reports of any arrest over the killing.
