The Chair of Fiji's Kava Council is pleading with the government to give more support to the international marketing of kava.

Ratu Josateki Nawalowalo told Radio Fiji that kava has great potential in the European market and should be given the recognition it needs.

He says he hasn't been able to meet the minister for agriculture and other government officials to talk about kava.

He says kava is a commodity or product that could earn as much revenue as sugar as far as European markets are concerned.

Ratu Josateki will attend a meeting in Berlin next month over the kava bans and restrictions in Europe.
