3:42 pm on 23 October 2007

The Honiara Magistrates Court has dropped robbery charge against a former Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza.

Magistrate Chris Vass accepted submissions from Sir Allan's lawyer that the charge does not corroborate with others convicted for the same incident.

The case against Sir Allan was over his alleged ordering of militants of the Malaita Eagle Force to raid the office of law firm Sol Law Services and take its vehicles during the ethnic tension in 2002 when he was Prime Minister.

Magistrate Vass adjourned the case until tomorrow [wed nz] to hear further submissions from Sir Allan's lawyer.

The lawyer wants to have the three remaining charges against Sir Allan of demanding money with menace, larceny and intimidation struck out.
