Palau's government revokes business license for company owing it thousands of dollars

Palau's government says the business license of Palau Marine Industries Corporation has now been revoked for failing to pay US$100,000 dollars in back taxes.

However the government may never see the money as PMIC's General Manager, Danilo Celes told the Island Times paper that the owners left a long time ago.

All of the company's 35 tuna fishing boats licensed have been ordered to return to harbour and stop fishing.

But Danilo Celes says those boats are long gone.

He says when owners Tai Jung Fei and his father Tai Chin Long left Palau, they left their nearly 30 mostly Filipino employees stranded.

He also says the workers were owed months of back pay.
