A Papuan human rights lawyer arrested in the provincial capital by Indonesian police has reportedly been moved to police custody in Jakarta.

Colleagues of Sabar Iwanggin, who works for the Human Rights organisation, Elsham, say he was arrested last Thursday in Jayapura by members of Indonesia's special anti-terrorism police branch, Detachment 88.

Elsham reports that Mr Iwanggin appears to have been charged with receiving and passing on a mobile telephone text message which police say is insulting to the Indonesian President.

However, Jayapura police are denying that Sabar Iwanggin was arrested by Detachment 88 and are saying that his arrest is a criminal matter.
