A Fiji Tourism Development Plan being launched today says the industry will need at least 16-thousand hotel rooms in the next nine years.

Fiji TV reports that among the targets set in the plan are attracting at least 1-point-1 million visitors by 2016 and generating revenues of 920-million US dollars as well as taxes of 170-million US dollars for the state.

After a post coup recovery period, the tourism ministry aims to create more than 21 thousand new jobs by 2016.

The permanent secretary for the ministry of tourism Adi Banuve Kaumaitotoya, says the plan is the result of extensive consultation in the industry and envisages a marketing budget of 12-million US dollars.
