Eight Fiji policemen charged with the murder of a suspect in their custody have pleaded not guilty.
The police had taken 30-year old Tevita Malasebe from his home in Nasinu one night early in June and his mother found him dead at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva the next morning.
A post mortem revealed he had died from brutal internal injuries.
Radio Fiji reports that the eight policemen alleged to have beaten Malasebe to death while he was in their custody.
Suva High Court judge, Justice Nazhat Shameem, has set February the 4th next year for a pre-trial conference with the trial proper due to begin on March the 10th.
The policemen have been released on bail.
Meanwhile, yesterday, eight Fiji soldiers and a policeman were charged with murder for the death of Nadi teenager Sakiusa Rabaka early this year.
