Tongan king closes parliament for 2007

Tonga's King George Tupou V has closed parliament for the year.

The closing ceremony was held at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall.

He says major aspects of the political reform process have been achieved in this year's session of the Legislative Assembly and the way forward has been identified for the next session of the House.

The king says the economy is satisfactory and national foreign reserves are at a high, allowing for a possible revaluation of the currency.

He says more tourists visited the kingdom which is a sign of confidence.
