Fiji administration to sell 49% of Radio Fiji

Fiji's interim administration is to sell 49-percent of the shares in the former public service broadcaster, Radio Fiji, which was corporatised by the Rabuka government nearly 10 years ago.

The minister for public enterprises, Poseci Bune , says the shares will be put up for tender and the best qualified bidder will be selected.

Mr Bune says this will support the government's objective of privatising government companies but will also be beneficial to the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation because new shareholders will bring in new capital and expertise.

He says the decision is based principally on the premise that business is best left to private entrepreneurs.

Meanwhile, the company remains without a chief executive after its last head, Francis Herman, resigned in June.
