Fiji's communications ministry has issued a 12-year licence to Channel 2 Fiji Limited to operate the country's second free-to-air television service.

The company chairman, Ken Stratton, says after waiting 7 years to have the licence issued, they plan to launch their service in December

He says Channel 2 Fiji will bring in new and dynamic international and local programmes to cater for Fiji's wide ethnic diversity.

Until now Fiji Television Limited, which is majority owned by indigenous Fijian provinces, has had a monopoly on free to air TV in the country.
