Government considers sending counsellor to Tongan students at USP

The poor academic performance of Tongan students at the University of the South Pacific or USP has prompted the government to consider hiring a student counsellor.

Tonga's Director of Education, Dr Viliami Fukofuka, told Radio Tonga the officer is to provide counselling services and help students at the Laucala Campus in Fiji.

He says Tonga is among four Pacific countries which has been rated below average in students' overall examination results.

Dr Fukofuka says in contrast Samoa is among other two island states in the region that rated above average.

He told Radio Tonga news that Samoan students at Laucala Campus have their a counsellor who helps students with life on campus and also their studies.
