An Australian national has been charged in Fiji for the murder of his wife for the second time only days after he was released.

Simon John McCartney's wife, Ashika Lata McCartney, arrived from Melbourne on October the 23rd and was found dead in Pacific Harbour about 10 days later.

Police arrested him and took him to court last Tuesday charged with murder.

But he was set free after state prosecutors argued that the charge should be brought by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions but they did not have sufficient evidence.

Police rearrested Mr McCartney and brought him to a special sitting of the Suva magistrate's court yesterday again charged with murder.

Magistrate Aminiasi Katonivualiku remanded him in custody until another court appearance today to clarify matters regarding evidence and jurisdiction for prosecution.
