Transparency International in PNG launches civics education project

2:04 pm on 12 November 2007

Transparency International Papua New Guinea has launched a civics education programme to be used in the country's schools.

A director, Peter Aitsi, says the Good Governance and Anti-Corruption Education Project will target lower secondary and upper primary schools.

He says it will develop civics education materials in the form of teaching kits.

Mr Aitsi says this will enable the teaching of values, skills and information needed by the citizens of a healthy democratic society if they are to participate effectively and as equals.

He says the materials will be developed by a committee made up of relevant stakeholders.
