SDL begins preparations for Fiji elections in early 2009

Fiji's SDL party says it is already planning its strategy for the March 2009 general election which is still 16 months away.

The SDL leader and deposed prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, has told Radio Legend that he is ready to lead the party to another general election win.

Mr Qarase says he personally would like to stand for election.

He says the party is building up its strategies and election machinery slowly but the pace will pick up in the new year.

Mr Qarase says the party is looking forward to the general election and will put up a good fight.
