The Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands has apologised to the community in Manakwai village in North Malaita following a brawl last month which allegedly involved Tongan soldiers attached to the mission.

RAMSI officials say the soldiers had apparently become involved in the altercation after finding a group of youths drunk on kwaso, or homebrew, but that their enquiries are continuing.

The Deputy Assistant Co-ordinator, Mataiasi Lomaloma, says his visit was an indication of how seriously RAMSI took the issue.

He sas RAMSI apologised for whatever had occurred and asked for the community's forgiveness.

Mr Lomaloma says he was very touched when the Manakwai community in turn apologised to RAMSI.
