Samoa Parliament discusses additional seats

11:11 am on 14 November 2007

Samoa's 49 seats in Parliament may increase to 52 for the next general election if a recommendation before Parliament for 3 new additional seats for Faleata and Vaimauga west constituencies is passed.

A Parliamentary select committee says an increase in the number of eligible voters living in the two constituencies within the Apia town area is the main reason behind the recommendation.

If passed, Faleata west will be divided into three separate constituencies and the same applies to Vaimauga west, which currently has two seats in Parliament.
