Fiji soldiers and police raid Khan home

Fiji police and armed soldiers have raided the holiday retreat of the New Zealand businessman who is a key suspect in the alleged conspiracy to assassinate key government figures, including the interim prime minister..

Ballu Khan was discharged from hospital yesterday suffering from a fractured skull and left cheekbone and immediately taken into police custody for questioning.

The military spokesman, Lt Col Mosese Tikoitoga, has confirmed the joint military and police raid on Mr Khan's holiday home at Udu Point at the eastern end of the island of Vanua Levu.

Officers of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption were reported to have taken over the questioning of Mr Khan late yesterday.

The assistant commissioner of police crime, Nasir Ali, has been quoted as saying Mr Khan would be charged today.

Meanwhile, his lawyer Tevita Fa, says Mr Khan is not well and is seeking avenues to have him evacuated to New Zealand for further treatment.
