Fiji NGO shocked at extent of Khan's injuries

Fiji NGO the Pacific Centre for Public Integrity says it is shocked by the extent of the injuries suffered by New Zealand businessman Ballu Khan, who has been released to police custody today.

Mr Khan's medical report shows he has a base of the skull fracture, a fractured cheek, bruising and obvious signs of psychological distress.

The PCPI's executive director, Angie Heffernan, says this level of police and military brutality is completely unwarranted.

She says it reflects a systematic violence and cowardliness that now pervades the Police Force because of the involvement of the military.

Ms Heffernan says the international community needs to take note of these serious human rights abuses.
