French Polynesian health minister to organise talks with striking doctors

11:26 am on 16 November 2007

The office of the French Polynesian President says the health minister will organise talks with striking doctors to discuss their grievances.

Hospitals have been badly hit by the stoppage which has been joined by private doctors who are also concerned about the direction of the health care sector.

The striking physicians held a rally through Papeete to the presidential palace yesterday but failed to meet President Oscar Temaru.

The health ministry says a date for the meeting will be set later.
