License for first VoIP service in Fiji

VoiceNet IP Fiji has become the first company to be issued with a licence to provide voice over Internet services in the country.

Fiji TV reports that the licence was issued this month and will enable the company to provide alternative means telephony services.

It will allow people to make telephone calls using a computer over the Internet.

The new licence holder was given six months to set up but says it will be ready to launch in 2 weeks.

VoiceNet IP Fiji's director Joeli Kalou, says people will make considerable savings in their telephone bills and the new licence will enable them to market their services, something they could not do for years.
