Talks in Tahiti in bid to end doctors' strike

1:43 pm on 20 November 2007

Striking doctors in French Polynesia are today meeting a range of political leaders to raise their grievances.

The stoppage, which was launched nearly a week ago, has affected the territory's hospitals which can only handle emergencies.

The doctors will today meet the vice-president, Antony Geros, as well as a range of ministers, including the finance minister.

The strikers claim that the growing needs of the people in the territory require higher budget allocations.
