First results from Marshalls polls expected tonight

First preliminary results from the Marshall Islands general election are expected tonight following unprecedented voting problems in Majuro.

33 seats are to be filled in the new parliament but yesterday's election was marred by delays and confusion.

Our correspondent in Majuro, Giff Johnson, says some polling stations stayed opened many hours longer than scheduled.

"Some polling stations stayed open until 4 or 5am on Tuesday morning to accommodate the voters that were already in line."
