A new government panel in American Samoa comprising government and private sector officials has been formed to advise the governor on the formulation of long term economic development.

The council is chaired by the governor's senior policy advisor Dr Oreta Togafau and Chamber of Commerce President David Robinson.

The council is intended to forge closer collaboration between the private sector and government in economic development.

The governor said it is critical for both sectors to work towards aligning public and private community resources to ensure the design and execution of effective, long term economic policies for the territory.
