Competition has spurred Internet provider Connect Fiji, to enter the Voice over Internet telephony market.
Just a day after VoiceNet IP Fiji said it would launch such a service in two weeks, Connect Fiji says it will be the first to enter the market by starting the same service from Monday.
Connect Fiji's chief executive, Sharon Smith-Johns, says their service using broadband will reduce the cost of telephone calls to traditional destinations such as Australia, New Zealand and North America by between 50 and 60-percent.
She says this will benefit individuals and companies, and attract call centre operations which may have been put off by high telecommunications costs in the past.
