Samoa to encourage more visitors from American Samoa

In a push to increase visitor numbers from American Samoa, the Samoa Association of Manufacturers and Exporters has recommended to the Samoa Government that entry permits for US nationals from American Samoa be waived for the December January period.

The SAME president Papalii Grant Percival says while the number of tourists from Pago Pago has improved over last year's figures they are not what they used to be

"This year's increase improved a bit over last year but it's really a decline from what it was five or six years ago. We would like to see that better. It would fill in a lull for the hotels across there. It would help them but, conversly we still need to look at joint marketing and trying to improve the two destinations as a joint tourism market."
