The former owner of a chocolate and soap factory says he has plans to revive soap making and manufacture cardboard boxes in Samoa.

Eddie Wilson, the owner of New Investments Trust, told the Samoa Observer newspaper that he has a deal with a Malaysian company to promote and sell their soap in the Pacific.

The Malaysian company will supply the raw products and the manufacturing and exporting will be done in Samoa.

Mr Wilson says they hope to export to other islands such as Tonga and Fiji.

New Investments Trust will also manufacture cardboard boxes which Mr Wilson says will be a big help to farmers and fishermen who export fish.

Mr Wilson says another phase of the business will be to recycle cardboard packaging and boxes.

The boxes will be manufactured under the label "Green Pacific Boxes".
