More claims and counterclaims of MPs swapping sides as Solomons' political crisis continues

4:27 pm on 27 November 2007

The Solomon Islands Opposition has denied a claim that four of its MPs have joined the Manasseh Sogavare-led government.

The local broadcaster, the SIBC, had earlier reported that MPs, Peter Boyers, Stanley Sofu, Edward Huni'ehu and Steve Abana had joined the Government.

This follows a three week long stalemate with both the Government and Opposition claiming a majority of the 48 MPs.

But the SIBC says the named MPs have categorically rejected the report.

Steve Abana says he condemns the way the Government is prolonging the crisis and says the Opposition still has the support of 26 MPs.
