An Australian aid worker in the flood-stricken Oro province in Papua New Guinea says the flood damage is so severe that support will need to continue for some months.
The Australian Air Force is conducting one of the Pacific's biggest relief operations in recent years, to bring supplies to the tens of thousands of people who were made homeless by the disaster a fortnight ago.
AusAID's field co-ordinator, Bill Costello, says the organisation is bringing blankets, tarpaulins and food into the area.
He says if people's food gardens are damaged then they won't be able to feed themselves for months, and a plan will be needed continue aid long-term.
