Fiji's interim prime minister says military will be guardian of People's Charter

Fiji's interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama says the military will be the guardian of the People's Charter and it will ensure that no one steps out of line.

The Fiji Times paper says the Commodore had been responding to a question on what would happen if a new government came into power and refused to recognise the People's Charter.

He did not elaborate further on the matter nor was he asked about what he meant.

Commander Bainimarama also said Fiji could go to the polls in 2009 if people stopped criticising the interim regime but he declined to comment on what would happen if the criticism continue.
