Cyclone Damon threatens Fiji Yasawa and Mamanuca groups

The Fiji met office is warning people living in low lying areas and next to river mouths to move to higher ground as tropical cyclone Damon heads towards the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups.

IEarlier this morning, tropical cyclone Daman was 290 kilometres north - northwest of Nadi and is expected to hit that area tonight.

The met office's, Daini Donu, says the cyclone is intensifying.

"Since yesterday the cyclone has intensified and has average winds of upto 120 kilometres per hour with momentary gusts of upto 180 kilometres close to the centre"

She says there have been no reports of damage or flooding at this stage.
