The Solomon Island's Prime Minister, Mannaseh Sogavare, has set a date for the much awaited sitting of parliament.

In a statement, the Prime Minister says cabinet has decided the sitting will be held on Christmas Eve.

This is a week later then the date set by the Governor General Sir Nathaniel Waena, who had stepped into the debate over when the house should resume.

The Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, says this date will allow time for the Finance Minister to have the budget ready for parliament.

The opposition has planned a vote of no-confidence in the Prime Minister when parliament next sits.
