Fiji's interim Minister for Provincial Development, Ratu Epeli Ganilau, says a further assessment of the needs of the cyclone hit island of Cikobia will be carried out after basic supplies are delivered.

Fiji's National Disaster Management Office says emergency supplies of food and medicine are to be dropped off by helicopter to those displaced by Cyclone Daman.

The director, Joeli Rokovada, says an aerial survey of the island has found that homes in all four villages have been extensively damaged along with food crops.

Mr Rokovada says a further assessment will be undertaken today.
