Solomon's opposition against parliament next sitting on Christmas Eve

11:36 am on 10 December 2007

The Opposition in the Solomons has rejected the latest date put forward for by the government for the next sitting of parliament.

The Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, says the house will resume on Christmas Eve.

But the opposition spokesman, Edward Huniehu, says the date is inappropriate as it is traditional for MPs to spend Christmas with their families and in their constituencies.

He says all opposition MPs will attend parliament on December the 13th, the date set down for the next sitting by the Govenor General.

The High Court is yet to rule on a challenge by the Attorney General against that earlier date.

The opposition has planned a vote of no-confidence in the Prime Minister when parliament next sits .
