Relief supplies sent to Cikobia after Cyclone Daman hits northern Fiji

Emergency supplies are being airlifted to the Fiji island badly hit by tropical cyclone Daman.

The category four storm destroyed homes, a school and crops on the island of Cikobia on Friday.

Pajiliai Dobui from the Disaster Management Office, says a helicopter is currently dropping rations, blankets and tents to the islands 70 inhabitants.

He says a ship was due to leave for Cikobia at midday, with more supplies and a team to assess the damage.

No one on the island is believed to have been hurt.
