Tongan government sues paper for defamation

2:14 pm on 21 December 2007

The Tongan government says it has again sued the newspaper Kele'a for defamation over a report carried two months ago.

It says a consultant, Rob Solomon, working as an advisor for the prime minister is being funded by the Commonwealth.

The government says the paper is wrong to say that the prime minister had employed Mr Solomon privately.

It accuses the Kele'a newspaper of abusing the freedom of the media by publishing lies about the government and its leaders.
